Why Non-Follower Results May Be Incomplete

Planned workflow: Learn why a missing account is not proof of a missing follow-back. Understand limited lists, unknown relationships, and careful unfollow decisions.

Why can a non-follower list be incomplete or misleading?

Pagination gaps, stale observations and unreadable relationships can make a list incomplete. Absence from such a list is not evidence of a false relationship. Automatic unfollow requires complete, sufficiently fresh evidence and otherwise stays blocked.

Visible lists are not always complete

A source can be partial even when it returns valid people. A missing page, interrupted cursor, and a truly empty population must be represented differently.

Missing versus confirmed non-follower

Confirmed non-follower means the follow-back field is known false. Not finding a username in a truncated followers list leaves the relationship uncertain.

How previews show uncertainty

A useful preview shows unknown and excluded counts beside eligible candidates. It must not relabel unreadable attributes or stale relationships as confirmed matches.

What to do before unfollowing

Before an unfollow, refresh relationship evidence within the configured policy and keep exceptions protected. The policy’s evidence lifetime is not an Instagram guarantee.
